Former Patriots player, Kim Boulos is currently in Mexico trying to qualify for the Women’s World Cup to be held in Germany next year.
Kim, a former Patriots 87’ player, is a member of the Haitian National Team, and is in Cancun, Mexico at the Concacaf World Cup Qualifying tournament.
After suffering a 5-0 loss at the hands of the United States, on a hat trick from Abby Wambach, and a goal a piece for Rachel Buehler and Amy Rodriguez. The Haitian team took on Costa Rica on Saturday October 30, and after a hard fought match, fell to the Tico’s 3-0. The loss to Costa Rica has effectively eliminated Haiti from qualifying for the semi finals, and thus from the 2011 Women’s World Cup.
The 5-0 loss to the United States saw Wambach score her sixth career Hat Trick for the US. Defender Rachel Buehler’s first career goal for the United States was the opening goal of the game, and the eventual match winner. Rodriguez bagged her ninth goal for the National team.
Kim, a graduate of Fordham University, finished her professional season in Sweden last week, and flew straight to Mexico to join up with her Haitian teammates. After completing her second season with QBIK of the Swedish First Division, Kim was on a flight to Cancun to participate in her first World Cup Qualifying tournament.
Kim is the second Patriots player to be involved in World Cup Qualifying games. Caitlin Fryer of the Patriots 97s not only competed in qualifying games, she actually played in the U17 Women’s World Cup held in Trinidad and Tobago this past September. Caitlin plays for the South African U17 National Team, and after finishing the qualifying rounds of the CAF (Confederation of African Football) in third place, South Africa qualified for the 2010 U17 Women’s World Cup. Caitlin became one of the youngest players to ever play in the U17 World Cup, but unfortunately, South Africa fell foul to the luck (or lack of) of the draw, and drew Germany, South Korea, and Mexico in group play. Germany and South Korea are two of the best teams on the U17 World stage, and saw off South Africa in the opening two games. In the third game, Mexico managed to find the net four times, ending South Africa’s hopes of a win. Caitlin became the first Patriots player to ever participate in a FIFA World Cup.
Caitlin is coached by Patriots Director of Coaching, Steve Davis. Kim also played for Steve for the five years she was with the Patriots.
When asked about the accomplishments of both players, Steve said "I’m extremely proud of both girls. Caitlin is very much like Kim was when she was 14, and if Kim’s successes are anything to go by, then Caitlin has a bright future indeed. Kim has worked hard for her successes, and her work ethic and dedication is a great model for young players coming through our club to follow."
Players like Sofia Griff and Fallon Sheridan, who play alongside Caitlin on the Patriots 97s, are such players in the club who are looking to follow in Kim’s footsteps. Both players were selected to the Olympic Development Program (ODP) Regional Team. This past summer, both players were identified as players representing the top 50 players in the region. The region stretches from Maine to West Virginia. The ODP Regional Team is one step away from making the U15 National Team next summer.
Michelle Kowalski of the Patriots 94s, has represented the Polish U19 Women’s National Team in European Championship Qualifying. She played three games in September, and is expected to be recalled for upcoming European Qualifying games.
The Patriots organization congratulates all these girls for their amazing accomplishments, and for representing the Patriots in a professional manner all over the world.
